Supplement Auto-Ship: Payment Review

Adding auto-ship to a supplement store? Review one-time and recurring billing, renewal timing, cancellation, fulfillment and payment-provider acceptance.

Can one account cover purchases and auto-ship?

Possibly, subject to the provider's review. Nutra Payments advertises subscription, recurring and auto-ship models in its FAQ and requires a clear opt-out option under its own policy. Its offering is an example, not proof that your existing account permits a new billing model or that every supplement qualifies.

MerchantBridge analysis: ask for confirmation of both the products and the proposed billing arrangement. Describe any introductory price, trial, shipping charge or later price change. "We sell supplements" leaves out important information when customers can also enroll in continuing orders. This article concerns payment preparation, not the legal sufficiency of subscription terms.

Map a first order and a renewal side by side

Consider a hypothetical store offering a single bottle for a one-time purchase and a separate monthly auto-ship option. The subscription creates a continuing relationship: the first checkout starts it, and later charges and shipments follow the agreed schedule. Write down what the customer sees and what staff do at each stage.

For review, describe the initial amount, the subsequent amount, the billing interval and the timing of shipment. If a discount applies only to the first order, make that distinction explicit. These are questions for documenting your model, not a recommended offer or a provider-approved checkout design.

  • Initial order: how the customer chooses one-time purchase or subscription and sees the relevant terms.
  • Renewal: which system schedules the charge and which system creates the next order.
  • Fulfillment: when an order is released and how an unsuccessful payment affects shipment.
  • Cancellation: how a request stops future billing and what happens to an order already in progress.

Check what happens when the normal sequence breaks

MerchantBridge analysis: choose one exception and follow it through all systems. A customer cancels after a renewal order is created but before it ships. Who checks whether the payment has occurred, who stops fulfillment and who explains any refund decision? The answer should not depend on separate teams assuming another system handled it.

Ask the provider and software vendor about failed renewals, permitted retry settings, changes to stored payment details and customer notices. Have the applicable requirements confirmed for your arrangement. Do not assume a recurring-billing feature automatically supplies the disclosures, customer communications or operating process your business needs.

Give the provider a billing brief, not just a catalog

Submit the website and actual product range with a short explanation of the one-time and subscription options. State the expected share of each, typical order values and whether those figures are historical or projected. Add fulfillment timing and the customer-support and cancellation process.

Nutra Payments' own underwriting FAQ asks about product presentation and fulfillment, reinforcing that a billing discussion also needs the underlying business details. Its requirements are provider-specific. MerchantBridge can use a factual brief to explore a potential referral, but cannot establish acceptance from an advertised subscription feature.

Confirm the change before switching on auto-ship

If you already process single purchases, describe auto-ship as a proposed change and ask how it affects the account review. Confirm the supported billing connection, account terms and testing steps before enabling renewals. Avoid promising customers a start date that depends on an unconfirmed setup.

Keep the written provider response with the final billing-flow description so staff know which version was reviewed. Revisit it when the catalog, introductory offer or renewal model changes. The goal is a repeatable process in which a customer request can be traced through payment, order management and fulfillment.
