How to Get Payment Processing for a Supplement or Nutraceutical Brand

A supplement processing application should explain the ingredients, claims, customer offer and fulfillment operation behind the brand. A familiar bottle design or a nutraceutical label does not tell a reviewer what is being sold or whether the billing model is sustainable.

This guide focuses on U.S.-market dietary supplement brands and separates merchant preparation from ISO referral work. It is not a product-clearance opinion. Confirm ingredient, labeling and destination requirements with qualified advisers before seeking payment support.

Classify the catalog before applying as a supplement brand

Create a product register identifying ingredients, serving format, label version, manufacturer and selling markets. Separate ordinary dietary supplements from products that may instead be drugs, cosmetics, foods or research chemicals. Nutraceutical is not a shortcut around that analysis.

FDA's dietary supplement guidance explains that the category has a defined scope and includes exclusions related to certain drug and investigational-drug ingredients. An ingredient being discussed in the news, or offered by another seller, does not establish that your proposed supplement is lawful. FDA: Questions and answers on dietary supplements

Where a new dietary ingredient question arises, determine whether the notification requirements apply. FDA's NDI process is not a general product approval service. Obtain a product-specific answer rather than calling an ingredient FDA approved because a notification exists. FDA: New dietary ingredient notification process

  • Identify any product requiring additional legal or regulatory assessment before sale.
  • Keep complete labels and formulations available for the review, not only front-of-bottle images.
  • Record whether manufacturing, packing and distribution are performed by your company or contracted suppliers.
  • Disclose the full catalog rather than omitting difficult ingredients from the application.

Review the claim and the evidence together

Review the overall impression of product pages, ads, testimonials and affiliate promotions. FDA distinguishes structure/function claims from disease claims and describes associated dietary supplement notification and disclaimer requirements. A disclaimer does not authorize a disease-treatment claim. FDA: Structure/function claims

FTC's health-products guidance addresses both express and implied advertising claims and the evidence supporting them. A study about a different formulation or population is not automatically substantiation for your finished product. Keep a claim register with the evidence and the person responsible for review. FTC: Health products compliance guidance

Do not replace an unsupported treatment promise with a coded version that conveys the same message. Correct the offer and its evidence honestly, including affiliate material you authorize or control. A bank review cannot resolve an underlying advertising problem.

Connect the product on the website to the product being shipped

Prepare manufacturer and supplier information, relevant quality records and a lot-traceability process. FDA maintains dietary supplement manufacturing guidance under the applicable CGMP framework. Determine responsibilities for your role, including when production is outsourced; a supplier's logo or generic certificate is not the complete compliance file. FDA: CGMPs for food and dietary supplements

A practical brand evidence register
AreaRecord to organize
CatalogCurrent formula, complete label and the markets where it is sold.
SupplyNamed manufacturer, purchase or supply arrangement and inventory lead times.
QualityRelevant batch records and testing, with scope and lot identity understood.
Customer issueComplaint, return and escalation process linked to the affected order.
ChangesApproval owner for reformulation, supplier changes and new claims.

This register is preparation advice, not a statement that every partner requires every document. Share only requested evidence through a controlled handoff and avoid placing proprietary formulations or raw customer records in the public contact form.

Make autoship understandable before the first charge

Distinguish a one-time order from a subscription, introductory offer or replenishment plan. Show the amount, timing and conditions of future charges, explain how cancellation affects the next shipment, and ensure support staff can carry out the published process.

ROSCA establishes disclosure, consent and cancellation requirements for U.S. online negative-option offers. Additional state and provider requirements may apply. Retain evidence of the terms accepted and test cancellation before launch, not after a customer complains. FTC: ROSCA requirements for online negative options

  • Make the recurring selection deliberate and distinguish promotional pricing from later pricing.
  • Explain shipping frequency, skipped orders, renewal timing and refund treatment.
  • Ensure cancellation reaches both the billing system and fulfillment workflow.
  • Check mobile checkout, receipts and customer account controls using realistic scenarios.

Prepare the business and payment history without assuming standard terms

Organize the entity, owners, banking, current sales channels and inventory model. Break down recurring versus one-time revenue, typical order value, dispatch timing and geographic mix. New brands should explain the basis for forecasts and how launch inventory and support are funded.

Durango's public supplement material emphasizes labels, sourcing, billing clarity and fulfillment in its own review process. That offers a useful market benchmark, not evidence that MBA has the same program or that its published rates and timelines apply here. Ask the actual proposed partner to confirm requirements. If an offer becomes available, review total fees, gateway support, recurring-payment capabilities, any reserve, funding schedule and contract conditions. Test whether the economics still work with returns, shipping and acquisition costs included. No provider quote should be treated as a guarantee of margin or continuing acceptance of future products.

Keep the approved catalog and customer experience aligned

  • Confirm the approved products, websites, markets and recurring arrangements before activation.
  • Test purchases, renewals, cancellation, refunds and failed-payment handling using provider tools.
  • Reconcile fulfillment status and billing so cancelled orders do not continue through the warehouse.
  • Review new ingredients, suppliers, marketing claims and trial offers before making material changes.
  • Give one person responsibility for maintaining the underwriting file and responding to partner questions.

A brand that adds an unfamiliar ingredient or aggressive trial promotion may no longer present the same risk as the business originally reviewed. Treat the change as a business decision requiring review, not merely a new SKU in the shopping cart.

For ISOs: qualify the supplement opportunity beyond the label

Ask what products generate the sales, what claims attract the customers and whether orders recur. A single-purchase vitamin brand and a heavily promoted trial program need different conversations. If your existing sponsor excludes the category, a separate acquiring relationship may be worth exploring after those facts are clear.

MBA can help frame a potential referral around the catalog, claims, subscriptions and operating markets. It cannot certify an ingredient or promise acceptance of a formulation. A product-specific legal concern must be resolved, not reframed as a generic wellness offer.

Agree the merchant contact plan and commercial terms case by case. Do not promise the ISO a fixed residual, guaranteed placement or a lower cost without the relevant agreement and actual proposal. Maintaining a useful relationship starts with a complete and accurate description of the business.

Give MBA a focused supplement referral summary

  • Your firm's contact details and permission status for identifying the merchant.
  • Product groups, entity country, selling markets and any ingredient or claim questions.
  • Approximate activity, order values and the proportion of recurring sales.
  • Fulfillment model, platform, current limitation and required payment functionality.
  • The desired next step: initial category discussion or an authorized introduction.

Start without private statements, identification documents or customer health information. MBA can establish which business records a potential partner needs after the initial discussion.
